Ask for payment before or after the Private Lesson?

It can be awkward if you don’t address it early on. Payment from a student for a lesson. Do you ask for it before the lesson or after?

Well, it’s of course your choice, but we recommend that either way, you discuss payment before meeting your student for a lesson. In fact it’s one of the first things you should establish. Once a student expresses an interest in taking your lesson, you should confirm the agreed price.

Your profile page should indicate what your teaching rate is, so, you should really be charging whatever you’ve advertised on that page. If you notice, that after being contacted by a student, your lesson price is lower than you remember, you can either discuss with the student explaining your price has gone up and enquire if they would still like to take your lesson. Alternatively, you might just want to deliver the lesson at the agreed price and take the hit for forgetting to update your teaching profile.

What you definitely should not do, is charge a rate different to what was on your profile when the student contacted you for a lesson. The student would not be required to pay that rate and you would get banned from OrangoJapan for trying to charge more than you advertised in your profile.

OrangoTeacher.com / OrangoJapan.com does not take any percentage payment from teacher or student and the financial transaction relating to the language lesson is between the teacher and student.
